Self-Care Ideas for Busy Moms
As a mom, it can be easy to forget to take care of yourself while you are so busy taking care of the entire family. From rushing back and forth to school, meetings, sports matches, homework and everything in between it seems to be an impossible task to set some me-time aside.
That is why we are encouraging moms to take that break, to have that cup of coffee and to take the afternoon for themselves for once.
Here are some simple and affordable self-care ideas for busy moms:
1. Schedule Time to Relax
As crazy as this may sound if you struggle to find time for yourself it would be best to force some time into your busy schedule. Moms are great at planning (mostly because we have to be), so this part should be a breeze.
If you know that the baby naps from 12h00 to 13h00 and the kids need to be fetched from school at 14h00, then pencil some time in for some relaxation while the baby is sleeping. Use this time to catch up on sleep, watch some series or do some crafting.
It might be tempting to clean during this time but please do resist and get yourself some well-deserved me-time instead.
2. Meditate or do Yoga
If you cannot find time to get to the gym or to your local yoga studio, then set some time aside to do some meditation or yoga at home. There are plenty of tutorials on YouTube that have guided home routines that you can try.
Put on some relaxing music, set your laptop or TV to YouTube and push all the stresses and worries from your mind even if it is just for one hour.
3. Chat with a Friend
Sometimes some adult conversion is all you need to help get your head back on straight so set aside some time for a coffee date or even a quick chat over the phone with your bestie.
There is nothing quite as therapeutic as a chat with your loved ones so take the time to keep in touch with the people that care about you. You never know when one of them might offer to babysit so that you can get the night off!
4. Pamper Yourself
When was the last time you just laid in a bath salt-infused bath with a good book and wine? If ever, probably a very long time ago!
You deserve more than a quick shower to relax.
Make an evening of your pamper session with face masks, foot scrubs, manicures and the entire work so that you can start the new day feeling fresh.
5. Journal or Blog
Sometimes the best way to relax and reorganise your thoughts is to write them down especially when you are feeling overwhelmed. If you prefer an old school approach, buy yourself a pretty journal and some colourful pens and get writing.
Otherwise, if you prefer writing on the computer or laptop, there are plenty of free blogging applications and websites that you can use to get your thoughts out on ‘paper’.
If you are feeling more creative, why not try your hand at a novel? You might be surprised at what you are able to come up with.
6. Take a Social Media Break
Scrolling through social media can be quite stressful especially because most of what we see on social media is the ‘ideal image’ that people want to project. From local moms in the area, friends and celebrities it can be difficult to try to keep up with what other moms are achieving.
If you feel overwhelmed after scrolling through social media, simply step away from social media for a day or two and you will feel better.
7. Wake Up Earlier
This suggestion might receive a lot of flak especially since moms get so little sleep as it is but you will actually be grateful. Set your alarm for fifteen minutes earlier and enjoy a fresh, hot cup of coffee or tea in the morning without any distractions.
You will be surprised at how pleasant your day will begin just by taking fifteen extra minutes for yourself in the morning.
