It’s that time of year again – the festive season is upon us and it’s time to think of long and lazy summer days and creating special memories with family and friends. In our last article we shared tips on making sure that you create some me-time during the holiday season. This time round we’d like to share a few tips and ideas on quick and easy recipes to keep the hungry tummies happy when hosting family and friends during the holidays.

Christmas is a time when families reunite and come together to create new memories and reminisce about time passed. Laughter and giggles fill the air as the kids play games while moms share their special recipes for Christmas lunch. In the last few weeks we’ve engaged with our followers on social media to see if we could glean quick and easy recipes that could help make the festive season a little less busy. We have a fantastic and easy pasta recipe that could save you time in the kitchen in the run-up to Christmas, giving you more time to relax and enjoy the conversation around the dinner table, or even just to put your feet up with your favourite magazine.

Karin van Niekerk Behrens shared her quick pasta recipe with us: cook pasta of your choice and fry bacon, sundried tomatoes and mushrooms in a pan; once the pasta is cooked, mix with the bacon mixture and add cream cheese. With this, you could add a simple garden salad, served in a beautiful House of York bamboo bowl. Not only is this a quick and easy dinner fix, but also creamy and delicious with a healthy salad – perfect following a long day at the beach or a day spent outside with the family.

Warm summer days call for a summery pudding with a twist, made from vanilla sponge cake and berries. If you’re dining outside, why not try a House of York chopping board as a serving platter? This will add a sense of outdoors and rustic charm to your dinner table. What you’ll need to make the pudding:

For the sponge cake:

  • 250g soft butter
  • 250ml sugar
  • 250ml self-raising flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Fruit topping:

  • 250g strawberries
  • 125g blue berries
  • 125g blackberries
  • 125ml sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 50ml Kirsch
  • 1 vanilla pod (cut open)
